Mobile app design

Product design

This project started with a simple but familiar problem: most people want to be productive, but they rarely have a clear picture of where their time actually goes. Between social media, distractions, and fragmented routines, it becomes difficult to stay in control of the day. I took this as an opportunity to design a productivity tracker app that helps users understand their habits, measure productive versus unproductive time, and manage tasks and goals in one experience. The aim was to create something that felt clearer, more motivating, and more modern than the tools already available.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was designing for a problem space that is naturally data-heavy. Productivity tools deal with charts, time logs, reports, tasks, and goals, which can quickly become overwhelming if everything is shown at once. Existing products like RescueTime were already solving the functional side of the problem, but the experience still felt cluttered, dated, and difficult to navigate on mobile. My challenge was not just to redesign the visuals, but to make the entire experience easier to understand, more actionable, and more engaging for everyday users.

What I did

I began by studying existing productivity tools and identifying where the experience was falling short. From that, I mapped out the key user needs and built the product structure around them. I worked through the information architecture, user flows, and moodboarding before moving into the final UI design.

A major part of my solution was simplifying how information was presented. Instead of forcing users to process everything at once, I designed the dashboard with both an overview and a detailed experience, allowing users to quickly grasp their performance and then explore deeper insights when needed. I also designed flows for tracking productivity over time, filtering data through the calendar, managing tasks, setting goals, and staying informed through notifications. Throughout the process, I focused on making the app feel structured and useful, while still keeping the experience visually fresh and motivating.

Impact

The final outcome was a concept for a productivity tracker app that made complex productivity data feel much easier to digest and act on. The experience offered a clearer dashboard, better visibility into time usage, more flexible tracking options, and stronger task and goal management on mobile. It also introduced a more polished and contemporary visual language, helping the app feel less like a reporting tool and more like a daily companion for self-improvement.

Since this was a concept case study, it was not launched or user-tested, so there are no live business metrics tied to the outcome. Even so, the project demonstrates my ability to take a complicated, information-dense problem and turn it into an experience that is more intuitive, focused, and engaging.
